Painting Angels

These recent Angel paintings will be exhibited at the Miniature Show & Sale at the St. Thomas-Elgin Public Art Centre, St Thomas, Ontario.

Running from November 14 to December 19, 2020.

I’m creating a series angel paintings. Each one will be different and unique accompanied with a Haiku poem. Angels to honour my mom who rather unexpectedly passed away last year. She loved angels and fairies and would often gift me little statues. Art has immense healing powers, healing the artist as well as the viewer. Each final artwork will be for sale as a fine art print and I will also publish a book at the end.

Expected to be published February 2021.

For those of you who have lost a loved one, for those of you who might feel alone or sad or lost, for those of you in a toxic relationship, for those of you going through a difficult time, my gift to you is an angel.

Never Not Broken

Every now and then through all the internet noise I will come across something interesting and truly inspiring.

In this video she speaks of the Vedic goddess Akhilandeshvari (pronounced ah-kee-LAN-desh-va-ree) which translates to never not broken.

This goddess is sometimes depicted riding on the back of crocodile and is always broken, always putting the pieces back together just to tear them apart and reshape herself. Beauty in brokenness.

Mandala Paintings

Beautiful mandala artwork to mediate with by Artist Ann-Marie Cheung.

A mandala is a symbolic representation of the universe with an inner and outer world. The word mandala comes from Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language. Literally mandala means “circle.” The circle is seen as a magical form, without beginning and end, just as the universe is believed to have no end.

Just breathe and enjoy 15 minutes of artwork and music.

A bit about me

Ann-Marie Cheung, fine artist, lifelong learner and adventurer is a graduate of the prestigious Ontario College of Art.

An avid traveler, she has backpacked across Europe solo, rode an Arabian charger through the Valley of the Kings and Queens in Egypt, had a tattoo business in the Canary Islands, and crewed on a sail boat for Antigua Race week in the Caribbean.

Through life’s twists and turns, she had a successful freelance Multimedia Design business for a number of years while being at home with her 2 children. In her spare time, Ann-Marie can be found puttering around in her garden, learning to scuba dive or choking out her buddies at the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym.

Ann-Marie helps adventurous spirits create a joyful, magical space in their lives with her unique, vibrant, whimsical artwork. She invites you into her fascinating world of exotic colours, ancient patterns, ornate textures and rich symbolism where she is constantly exploring and creating with acrylics, mixed media and digital tools.

Ann-Marie has had numerous solo and group exhibits across Canada.  Her work is part of the Canada Council Art Bank collection and has been published in Zen Doodle Tons of Tangles.  “The Healing Garden”, an adult colouring book, is a published collection of her drawings.  Her award winning work can be found in numerous private collections around the world.

When Ann-Marie’s mother unexpectedly passed away and Covid-19 struck, she decided to return to her true passion of creating art and her life’s purpose of adding joy and colour to other’s lives.

Love and Death

Portrait Katrina Gorman

On the morning of February 5th, 2019 my Mom was rushed to the hospital with breathing problems. Shortly after (maybe an hour), she died of a blood clot in her lungs. It was so shockingly sudden, we never even got a chance to say good bye. She was in good health and so active, we had no warning signs.

I had a dream before waking this morning. The kids and I were meeting my Mom and one of my sisters to go on a boat trip. We met them on the beach. I gave my Mom a big, long hug. She felt so real and solid. I could feel the texture of the black lace top she was wearing. I’m holding on to the feeling today.
