SHE at the Illumine Gallery – Opening Feb. 11th

I’m exhibiting along with other talented artists at the beautiful Illumine Gallery in St Thomas, Ontario. Opening February 11, 2017 7pm.

Many years ago, I was a gypsy soul exploring the Caribbean, traveling to Egypt, backpacking across Europe… These paintings capture my longing to be the gypsy wanderer once more; they transport me back to a delightful time before I became lost in motherhood.

Do you have a gypsy soul? Are you smitten by wanderlust?

“She is free in her wildness, she is a wanderess, a drop of free water. She knows nothing of borders and cares nothing for rules or customs. “Time” for her isn’t something to fight against. Her life flows clean, with passion, like fresh water.”
― Roman Payne

London Children’s Museum Brush Off May 18th, 2016

I’m excited to be participating in the Brush Off to help support the London Children’s Museum!

16 artists will test their skills through a painting competition. Guests cast votes determining who is crowned the night’s champion. http://www.londonchildrensmuseum.ca/support/brush

The Brush Off 2016
1 night. 16 artists. 4 rounds of competition. 43 original works.
1 CHAMPION.

The Brush Off is a unique fundraising event featuring a live painting competition, great food and live and silent auctions. Sixteen artists will test their skills through 4 rounds of painting competition. Guests vote to determine who makes it through each round and is ultimately the night’s champion. Original works of art will be created at The Brush Off and guests have an opportunity to take a painting home by placing a winning bid, all while supporting the Children’s Museum.

Right now, 1 in every 5 children in London is living in poverty.  The schools these children attend are unable to provide experiences to enrich the education and lives of their students because of cost and access barriers.  With your support of The Brush Off, the Children’s Museum will be able to offer a subsidy to help with field trip costs including bus transportation to and from the Children’s Museum and pizza lunch, often a luxury for the children.

My Mixed Media Art Process

Since my artist friend Paula Mould keeps asking me to post photos of my process, here it is…These are 4 plywood panels 8″ x 10″ x 1″ each. I’ve used green painters tape to block off certain areas and started with some dark acrylic paint.

process2

I cut out some bird shapes using coloured paper, then used a fine process4archival ink marker, Pigma Micron 01 to draw some designs.process5

process3

The birds and other cut out paper shapes are glued to the panels using an acrylic gel medium.process6 process4More paint is added.process7

More layers of paint are added, letting coats dry in between.process8

Some words are painted on…bloom, shine, dream and blossom.process9
